Jetty Utility Control System
Jetty Utility Control System
Problems
In the oil & gas industry, water risks carry potential interruptions to production, increase operating expenses, and damage reputations and relationships with regulators and people in general.
Increased water requirements have accompanied the growth of the refining industry. As the number, size, and complexity of refineries increased, the total water requirements of the industry increase too.
Generally, water obtained from both surface sources and wells, used sewage effluent, used saline ground water or saline surface water to supply part of their requirements.
Water quality requirements for cooling, boiler feeds, processing and sanitary purposes are different from treated water system requirements. Therefore, applying the right automated utility control system is crucial in ensuring its efficacy.
Solutions
Fiber optic & SIEMEN Profinet network configuration
Links up four (4) plants (Administration building, Motor control room, Sulphur handling area, Jetty Transportation area) which are approximately 10 KM apart
Redundant supervisory system
100% redundant capability including monitoring & control of SCADA and flow computer communication
Able to interact with 3rd party systems with complete information displays in the monitoring system
Includes IMCS, Acid & Alkaline dosing and HVAC
Effective pump operation control
Duty & Standby control philosophy to maintain instrument’s lifespan
Results
Manage & Optimize water efficiency
Improved water-conservation practices
Increase in consumptive use and a decrease in waste-water discharge
Information on the water usage of individual processing units may therefore be useful in analyzing the water requirements of petroleum refineries
